Star In A Bra Australia – words of wisdom from Lauren Colfer
Written by Becky Mount on Jul 9, 2012We can’t quite believe that it’s already been a year since our first ever Australian Star In A Bra! Our first international venture with the competition, and since then we’ve run it in America and crowned our first American Star In A Bra…yet here we are again, on the look out for another stunning lady from the land down under!
Last years winner Julia has had a fantastic year and looks absolutely sensational in our Autumn/Winter 2012 collection, which you’ll start to see popping up in shops and on websites any day now. We’re sure you’ll agree she fits right in with the Curvy Kate family and whilst we’re so sad that her year is coming to an end, we’re really excited to see who will be our next Australian model…
So once again, we need your curves!
We know it’s a daunting prospect, so we caught up with some of our previous winners to help convince you to enter. To coax our American sisters into entering, we spoke to Laura Butler – from the first EVER Star In A Bra – and Lizzie Haines – our previous UK winner, and this time round we’re speaking to some other familiar faces.
First up, we hear from the lovely Lauren Colfer. Lauren won the second UK Star In A Bra competition, back in 2009, and she’s been with us ever since. Lets hear what she has to say about her Star In A Bra experience…
“Hello everyone, I’m Lauren and I’m 22 years old and I live in South London! (That sounds like an intro for a TV Dating show.. Cringe!). At the moment, I work in a leisure centre in a variety of roles from administration to teaching swimming, but I’m currently on the hunt for a new career now, since graduating last year in Psychology, I feel it’s time for a change. If I’m not at the leisure centre, I might have a little modelling job here and there, most often for Curvy Kate!
I won the Star in a Bra competition back in 2009 and I can honestly say it is one of the best things that happened to me as it has opened so many doors for me. I remember sending my self-took photos quite late in the entry stage of the competition; I knew I wanted to enter that year after chickening out the previous year, but was finding it tricky to find a time to put a little make up on and get the poses going! When I got the call from Curvy Kate’s Hannah, I remember having to sit and have a moments silence with myself, before deciding that the only thing to do that made any sense would be to make a Facebook group! My friends and family were amazing and passed it on to people they knew and I found myself in the Top 10 photo shoot a few weeks later. When I won, I couldn’t believe it! There wasn’t much time to get used to the idea as the winner’s shoot and Curvy Kate’s first Spring/Summer brochure had to be shot the very next day! 3 years on and I have been lucky enough to continue to be a face of Curvy Kate in later brochures and travel to trade shows in Solihull, Birmingham, Paris, New York AND Las Vegas! I’ve even joined a modelling agency and done some different kinds of modelling work over the last year. Star in a Bra could definitely be your first step into the modelling world.
Modelling for Curvy Kate has been nothing but amazing. Having the chance to get your hair and makeup done to take glamorous photos is something a lot of girls dream of; being able to do that several times of year never gets dull. Travelling abroad for trade shows has been great; after a long day working at the show, we go for amazing dinners and drinks, stay in lovely hotels and get to have a bit of sight-seeing and shopping time! This year looks set to be a good one too, what with the competitions in the US and Australia, Curvy Kate just keeps getting better! Being a Curvy Kate girl is like a gift that keeps on giving; you get to meet some lovely people, from the other models to the Curvy Kate team behind-the-scenes, and you get to keep some bras and knickers every now and then; what more could you ask for!
My absolute favourite Curvy Kate Set is the Tease Me Bra from the ShowGirl range; the shape and lift it gives is unbelievable. I have it in 3 colours and honestly, I don’t think that’s anywhere near enough! I am excited for the release of the new Smoothie and Gia bras, as wearing them on shoots and tradeshows has made me fall in love!
Honestly, working for Curvy Kate has been nothing but high points. The only low points that come to mind were in the very beginning when I came across a small handful of horrible comments about me after winning the competition, from women AND men! But a quick chat with my mum reminded me that this is the industry it is, and with great success comes jealousy from other people. So my advice to all you ladies who want to enter, bear in mind that there are people out there who might like to be horrible just to try and get a reaction. Any bad comment you might come across will be outweighed by a hundred positive comments from the people you DO want to listen to!
I say any girl who has the assets to fill a Curvy Kate bra needs to grab a camera and get entering because you have nothing to lose (but your clothes for a couple of hours) and everything to gain! Make sure you get everyone and anyone you know involved in voting for you, and if you can, contact your local newspapers and radio stations, student unions.. whatever you can!
Before Curvy Kate, I never used to smile properly in photos, now, I have the biggest cheesiest grin of them all. Curvy Kate has made my confidence in myself and my body soar. I used to envy skinny girls, but I have come to love my body for every curve it has; I am a woman after all, not a girl!”
Has the gorgeous Lauren convinced you to enter? We hope so!
To find out more about the competition, the brand and hopefully to enter, head on over to the Curvy Kate Australia Facebook page and have a look around.
Or maybe she’s done such a great job you want to get straight on entering? Brilliant! If that’s the case, put that camera on charge and head straight to our Star In A Bra application on Facebook – the only way to enter. But don’t worry, your pictures won’t be public just yet! It’ll tell you everything you need to know about the competition but feel free to leave us a comment if you have a query and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
Good luck to everyone entering, and to everyone who’s thinking of entering…what are you waiting for?!

Personally i think this is just a fantastic thing to run girls like myself that are confident but curvey can have a chance at the modelling life!
I can feel confident entering this knowing that my size will not be judged!

I’m shattered that the only way you can enter is via Facebook, I’m 26 years old and have 32h size breasts and very interested in entering, is there another way??
