There’s only five days left before Star in a Bra starts in Australia… How exciting!
We understand it can be daunting entering a competition where you submit photos of yourselves in lingerie but remember we come in all shapes and sizes and we want you to celebrate your curves.
So I thought I would put together a little compilation of previous Star in Bra entrants and why they entered as a little encouragement… Enjoy!
Kelly Parks: I entered Star in a Bra because I’d often thought “I could do that” while looking through lingerie catalogues and thought this was a good opportunity for little old me to give it a whirl!
Georgina Horne: I am a big girl. Not just the boobs, but I have a huge bum and just everything! But my boyfriend loves my body and I have never felt the need to be slim, I’d be happier being a tad more toned but nothing drastic. I want to represent that idea to other bigger curvier ladies out there – big can be sexy and it can model underwear and it can have fun! Plus size girls need sexy bras too!
Hayley Cambridge: I entered to represent the women who aren’t very comfortable with or embarrassed about their big boobs, to show them that you can feel comfortable by wearing the correct sized bra and by realising that there are different solutions and styles to help you to love your boobs! I always used to be ashamed of my boobs because people would point them out and make comments about them, but I’ve grown to accept them since and I hope that this competition will teach me to love them. I’ll have to, if they win it for me!
Karen Simpson: I was very nervous and worried about entering, thinking that I wasn’t thin or young enough to be entering, but after reading your article it gave me confidence that this was not as important, but the person and personality that counted as well.
Emma Donaghy: I was an early developer and growing up, shopping for bras was a nightmare. I regularly attempted to squeeze my assets into the pretty petite sizes my peers were wearing. I wanted to ‘fit in’… literally. As I grew older, I learnt to be confident about standing out with my curves. Brands like Curvy Kate promote healthy figures in sexy lingerie, something I would love to be a part of.
Amanda Navin: To me this competition isn’t just about big boobed, curvy girls, it’s all about embracing your natural-shape in a healthy way whether you’re tall and slim, and you’ve got a bit too much boob or a bit too much bum. There’s always another girl who wants something you’ve got!
And to be quite frank, I’m sick to death of seeing all the same people in magazines and on the television, the ones that don’t even look real. British girls don’t look anything like the handful of girls that represent us – there’s a huge array of different shapes and sizes and I think that we should all enjoy being different, who wants to look exactly the same as everyone else anyway?! It’s boring!
It doesn’t matter who you are or what background you’re from, whether you’re Tall, Short, Tiny or voluptuous we want you to enter, have fun and love those gorgeous curves!

The 2011 UK lingerie awards are upon us and we are calling on all our curvy fans for their vote!
The UK lingerie awards are one of the biggest annual events for the intimate apparel industry where the public is called upon to nominate their favourite lingerie brands. There are many different nominations to choose from like ‘Lingerie Brand of the year’, ‘Best Marketing campaign’ and ‘Fuller Bust Brand of the year’ plus many more.
Here are some reasons why we think Curvy Kate should win Fuller Bust Brand of the year.
- Since Curvy Kate’s launch in 2009, the curvy brand has grown tremendously and is now stocked in over 300 UK outlets including Simply Yours, Fenwick’s, Bravissimo and Amazon.
- Curvy Kate is now distributed worldwide in countries like Australia, Canada, Germany, France, New Zealand, Greece and the Netherlands.
- Curvy Kate has grown from strength to strength and is seeing the launch of their curvy swimwear in 2012.
- They have a hugely successful marketing campaign called ‘Star in a Bra’ – the search for a new D plus model every year to represent the brand. The search this year has increases their social activity racking up a 714% growth in fans. In three month Curvy Kate’s Facebook fans went from 800 to 4451.
- 2011 will see the expansion of their sizes, from March this year Curvy Kate went from DD to D cups and they will be extending their back sizes this Autumn all the way up to a 44G

My size: 30HH
Fit: I’m wearing a 30HH in this picture and it’s absolutely perfect. As soon as I put it on I felt completely supported and was wowed by the fantastic shape it gives too, natural but full and uplifted. The band is tight but that’s something that I really like in a bra as it provides much more support and also makes your bras last longer too. I also love how this bra allows you to adjust the straps fully as well so you can have them just how you like them!
Colour: This bra is available in lots of stunning colours – Black/Ivory, Ivory/Black, Black/Teal, Teal/Gold Black/Raspberry, Raspberry/Black, Black/Pink and Pink/Black. The detail on the cup is absolutely gorgeous and I love the little ribbon that runs along the top on the cup. It’s very pretty, cute, feminine and sexy all at the same time – that’s my idea of a perfect bra!
Comfort: This bra is really comfortable. The only thing to bear in mind is that it’s quite tight around the back when you first start wearing it so it digs in for a while but with wear it loosens off and begins to become even more comfortable. It’s still only new as I got this bra about a week ago so it needs to be broken in like a new pair of shoes!
Occasion: I feel this bra is an “any occasion” bra! I would wear this bra to work, to go shopping, i’d even wear it on a night out as it gives me such a fabulous uplift that I feel sexy in it too.
Briefs: The CK briefs are known for being a bit on the small side. I normally wear a 10 but I got the size 12 for these briefs and they fit wonderfully. They are very comfortable and they even have, what I would call, a cheeky peephole at the back. Very cute indeed!

The Curvy Kate D plus model search is taking flight to international waters and scouring the nation down under to find the new face and body of the brand.
Curvy Kate ventured out to Australia to share their love of big bras and curvy girls after the overwhelming response in the UK. The brand was loved by shapely figures and the curvy shops down under started stocking the range from July 2009.
As Australia was the first country outside the UK to stock the Curvy Kate range, it was only natural for the brand to expand over there in more ways than one. With recently crowned winner Lizzie Haines flying the flag for the UK curvy girls, the full figured brand has decided to take on the second biggest market to find a new shapely model to represent the Australian real woman.
With growing popularity in Australia, Curvy Kate is now being sold in over 150 stores nationwide and has received press coverage in top magazines like Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Take 5. There is no doubt that the competition will take the nation by storm.
The Star in a Bra competition will be launched on the 29th June 2011 through the Australian Curvy Kate Facebook page. Take 5 one of the biggest selling weekly woman’s magazine in Australia will be the official sponsors of the competition.
The entrants will be whittled down to the top 20 by selected judges and would have to gather votes from the public. The public vote will then see the top 5 take part in a professional photoshoot with Take 5 magazine whereby their new images will be displayed in the magazine and the final voting stage for the winner will begin.
The winner will:
– Be crowned the face and body of Curvy Kate Australia
– Win a year’s contract with top Australian modelling agency, Bella Management.
– An all-expense paid trip to the UK to take part in the marketing campaign for Curvy Kate
– And of course some gorgeous Curvy Kate lingerie!
